Benjamin Banneker Academic High School Learning Commons Staff Mrs. Davis, Library Media Specialist Hours Before School 8:00 a.m. - 8:35 a.m. During Class & Advisory with a pass Lunch Time After School 3:15 p.m. - 4:15 p.m. Benjamin Banneker Collection Banneker is fortunate to have a strong collection of print materials as well as access to virtual materials. Banneker's collection consists of a vast collection of fiction books of all genres, most with lexile levels included. Banneker students have access to eBooks through the Banneker Destiny Catalog as well as access to DC Public Library eBooks through Overdrive. Banneker students and staff have access to a number of databases through the DC Public Library. All students have unlimited access using their DC One Card. Learning Commons Use Benjamin Banneker Learning Commons is here to support and supplement classroom learning. Activities and resources are available for student and staff support. Students are permitted to use the Learning Commons before school from 8:00 am to 8:35 am. During class time and advisory, students are permitted to use the library with a student pass signed by a Banneker faculty member. During advisory, only two students per advisory will be admitted. Students are permitted to use the Learning Commons after school from 3:15 pm to 4:15 pm. Classroom teachers can reserve a portion of the Learning Commons by reserving space using the Banneker Website. Patrons using the Banneker Learning Commons are expected to respect the needs of fellow patrons for a respectable work environment. Circulation Policies Students enrolled at Benjamin Banneker Academic High School are entitled to borrow materials from the Benjamin Banneker Learning Commons. Students use their DC Student ID number to check out materials. Students may access Banneker Destiny catalog and borrow eBooks on Destiny using their DC Student ID number for the username and password is MM/DD/YY. Borrowers with overdue items are not allowed to check out additional materials. Student borrowers are limited to the maximum check out of five (5) books. Materials in the general library collection are loaned for a two-week (14 calendar days) period. Banneker High School faculty is also entitled to borrow materials from the Banneker Learning Commons.
